Qualifyby EnerlinkOne plant is a question. Forty is a problem.
You have solar across dozens of sites. Find out which of them generate saleable carbon credits — and what the portfolio is worth — in an afternoon rather than a quarter.
- Most groups your size have no one in-house who can answer this. That is not a gap in your team; the rules changed twice in two years.
- We'll tell you which sites qualify, under which route, and what each is worth. Whether or not you work with us afterwards.
- Around R1.33 million per MW over five years, on conservative assumptions we'll show you.
- Sites commissioned before 2025 are turned away by most providers. We can often still include them through an existing project.

Where does your power go?
Four routes exist. Answer three questions and we’ll narrow them.
Which of these is you?
The answer changes depending on what you're holding.

One plant
A factory, farm, packhouse or office park with a single array. You want to know whether this is worth your attention at all.

A portfolio
A retail group, property fund or industrial group with solar across many sites. Nobody in the business can say which of them qualify.

A carbon tax bill
Your liability is climbing toward R462 a tonne while allowances shrink. Your own generation may be able to offset part of it.

Your indicative verdict
This plant looks like a strong candidate for a carbon project.

On these answers your plant lands on VCS v4.7 — behind the meter. That is the highest-value route available to you.
The qualification matrix
Indicative, based on your answers. Tap any row for a plain-language explanation.
How much of your generation goes to your own load versus the grid decides which route can even apply. We confirm this for your project.
How we read this plant
Five factors that decide whether a project stands up. Indicative, and never all high.
Weighted against six years of projects we have taken through the process ourselves — including the ones that did not make it.
Indicative value
R4.27 million to R4.92 million
Indicative value · 4.4 years remaining on our project · at 4.2 MW
Our project credits until March 2031. Every month before you join is a month you can't get back — roughly R22k per megawatt.
The period is renewable twice, so it could run to 2045. Renewal isn't guaranteed, so we quote what's certain.
- Yield: 1,500 kWh/kWp (conservative)
- Emission factor: 0.94 tCO2e/MWh (South Africa)
- Carbon price: R234–270/tonne (tax-linked, conservative forecast to our current sale price)
- Owner share: 70% (indicative)
Monitoring period 3 is open until 30 November 2026.
Miss it and your plant waits for the next period, which runs a full twelve months.
How long you earn
We quote the first crediting period. Renewal is upside — it depends on the project still qualifying when the time comes, so we never headline it.
| Route | First period | We quote | Renewable to |
|---|---|---|---|
| VCS v4.7Yours | 7 years | 4.4 years(remaining) | 21 years(if still qualifying) |
| VCS v5.0 | 5 years | 5 years | 15 years(if still qualifying) |
| I-REC | 1 year | annualised | rolling(if still qualifying) |
| DER | 12 months | annualised | rolling(if still qualifying) |
A behind-the-meter joiner inherits what's left of our project's crediting period, not a fresh term — currently 4.4 years.
What it adds up to.
Cumulative value across the 7-year first period. Dashed bars are renewal upside — real, never guaranteed.
What is missing
Proof of who holds the environmental attributes
You can only sell attributes you actually hold.
First-generation date evidence
This date decides which route, and which deadline, applies.
Historical generation data
Verification is far easier with historical data.
Confirmation the generation is not already claimed
Generation counted elsewhere usually cannot be sold again.

Only one route changes with the date. The grid-connected route runs on the current standard either way.
No size limit on the main route. From one megawatt to five hundred.
The route changes with the size. Whether we can do it does not.
One plant is a question. Forty is a problem.
A single array is a yes or no. A portfolio is a spreadsheet nobody owns — different commissioning dates, different export profiles, different owners of the rights. Some sites will already be past their window. Some will qualify under a route you haven't heard of.
We run every site and give you the list, ranked, with the ones that expire first at the top.

Your start date already earned you something.
The heaviest requirements under the new standard — a stakeholder engagement plan, a benefit-sharing mechanism, a safeguards assessment — are tied to when a project was first committed to, not when it registers.
Any project committed before 1 January 2027 has all three deferred to 2030. A project starting after that date has to complete them before it begins.
That part is locked in. What hasn't locked in is your crediting period.
Two clocks.
One you know about. One you probably don't.

Already fixed. It's what defers the heaviest requirements to 2030.
